International Paint sponsors FireBug building at Sydney Boat Show
The boating industry is at risk of losing a traditional part of its history – amateur boat building. At International Paint we believe the best way to preserve the past is to protect the future - by encouraging our youth to join the boating community and learn about the joys and rewards of life on the water.

One of the ways International has done this is by sponsoring a group of teenagers from the Forster Neighbourhood Centre to build a FireBug sailing dinghy on their stand at the Sydney Boat Show. (Hall 2, Stands 222 - 224).

The Forster Neighbourhood Centre (FNC) runs a variety of community projects including a boat building initiative for children at risk of leaving school early. Because boat building requires skills in both maths and English, the teens gain credits towards their school results whilst being motivated to complete their
education.

At the show International Paint donated the 2.4m FireBug to the FNC to add to their current fleet of two. Their goal is to build six in total which will allow them to add youth sailing events to their impressive list of community support programs.

Tony Keegan, International’s Regional Manager for Asia Pacific said, “You might think we just make paint but we’re passionate about boating which is why we have plans in place to do our part in ensuring that some of its historical elements don’t become extinct”.
